Dr. Arbab Ghulam Rahim (Urdu: ارباب غلام رحیم ) (born on September 15, 1957) remained the Chief Minister of the Government of Sindh during 2004-2007.[1]
He was born on 15 September 1957. He belongs to Tharparkar District in Sindh, Pakistan. He belongs to a family that has been in politics in Pakistan from independence.
After finishing high school from Cadet College Petaro, Arbab Ghulam Rahim study medicine at the Sind Medical College, Karachi. However, subsequent to his graduation, he chose to go into politics and has remained a prominent politician in the province of Sindh. He is a member of the Pakistan Muslim League. His family has been in politics for decades. He started his political career when he was in the fourth year of his university education at SMC, when he was elected as Chairman of Zila Council for Tharparkar in 1981 under the regime of General Zia-ul-Haq.
He won elections as a Member of National Assembly (MNA) four times, and as Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) from his constituency in tharparkar Dist. several times.
Belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Arbab Rahim was a close aide of party leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. Arbab was elected to the Sindh Provincial Assembly during the 2002 general elections from PS-60 constituency defeating Engineer Gianchand Meghwar, and was initially inducted as a provincial minister. Subsequently, he was elected as the Chief Minister of Sindh in 2004.
While Chief Minister of Sindh, Rahim was hit in the head with a shoe by Agha Javed Pathan a supporter of Benazir Bhutto in 2008.[2][3][4]
After the PML-Q was defeated in the 2008 general elections Arbab Rahim is currently living in U.A.E as in self-imposed exile.
In 2011, it was reported that he was beeing wooed by Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).[3] On 27 December 2011, Arbab Ghulam Rahim appointed President of Muslim League Like-Minded Group.
